Metal Halide lamps are available in universal, horizontal and base up position orientations. Universal lamps can be burned in any physical position but lumen output and lamp life is diminished when burned in a horizontal position. If you buy a grow light with a vertical reflector choose a base up lamp and if you buy a horizontal reflector choose a horizontal lamp. They cost a little more than universal lamps but the performance is better.
Metal Halide is primarily blue-oriented in the spectrum and best used for vegetative growth and when natural light is not available. Enhanced spectrum Metal Halide lamps are also available for specific growth stages.
3000° Kelvin; red burning metal halide spectrum promotes budding, flowering and fruiting growth and may be used during all the growing stages when a single lamp is preferred.
4000° Kelvin lamps; standard metal halide spectrum and used during the vegetative growth stages. Available in 175, 250, 400, 1000, and 1500 wattages.
4200° Kelvin: Made by Eye, these high output metal halide lamps produce higher blue/white spectral energy and higher initial and maintained lumens than competitive brands and promote vegetative growth. Available in 175, 250, 400, 1000, and 1500 wattages
5000° Kelvin: higher blue spectrum promotes vegetative growth. Available in 175, 250, 400, and 1000 wattages.
6000° Kelvin: Sunmaster blue burning spectrum and high lumen output promotes enhanced vegetative growth. Available in 400 and 1000 wattages.
6500° Kelvin: Made by Eye, these full spectrum (90 CRI) lamps produce spectral energy similar to natural daylight, promotes enhanced vegetative growth and may be used during all growth stages as a single light source. Available in 250 and 400 wattages.
Metal Halide Conversion Lamps; operates on a HPS grow light during the budding, flowering and fruiting growth stages. Eliminates the need to have two grow lights. Available in 250, 400, 600, and 1000 wattages.
